We have all been to a party or event which received negative feedback due to bad service or understaffing. Flowing drinks and efficient food service are the hallmarks of a successful party. Staff can make or break your event. Getting staffing levels right is crucial. Here are some guidelines for getting it right:
Professional friendly committed staff with knowledge of food safety and are trained in the responsible service of alcohol (if there is bar service) is essential.
When planning staffing budgets ensure that you allow enough time for set-up (1 - 2 hours) and tear down (1 hour).
How many food staff do I need?
Finger food event (food only) – 100 guests – 3 - 4 staff depending on menu
Finger food event (food only) – 50 guests – 2 staff
Full Buffet including dessert – disposable plates – 100 guests – 3 staff
Full Buffet including dessert – china and cutlery – 100 guests – 5 staff including kitchen hand
Waitering staff Wages
$30.00per hour (Monday - Friday)
$32.00per hour (Weekends)
(minimum 4hours shifts)
How many drink staff do I need?
The number of drink staff that you will require will depend on:
what drinks you intend to serve e.g. beer, wine, spirits, champage, soft drink?
If you are using glassware or disposable cups?
If drinks are served on trays; a bar set up or both?
Facilities that can be used e.g. if there is a sufficient washing up area and storage for used glasses.
Please keep in mind that you require a bar person to pick up dirty glasses and wash so that glasses do not run out.
